Vibia Aurelia Sabina was the wife of the Roman Emperor, Hadrian. She was born in the year 89 CE in the city of Emesa, which is now known as Homs, Syria. She was the daughter of a Roman, Lucius Vibius Sabinus, and a Syrian princess, Julia, who was the daughter of the priest-king of Emesa.
She was married to Hadrian in the year 100 CE and became his third wife. Their marriage was one of political convenience, as Sabina was the niece of the powerful Roman senator, Trajan, who was Hadrian's predecessor. The marriage helped to secure Hadrian's position as emperor.
Sabina and Hadrian did not have a happy marriage, and there were rumors that she was unfaithful to him. They had no children together, and she died in the year 136 CE, just nine years before Hadrian's own death.
Despite the unhappy nature of their marriage, Hadrian honored Sabina after her death, naming a city in Egypt after her and dedicating a temple in her honor.
